Having 7 cats, who are mostly indoor, it is really hard to not smell cat pee. Although the plastic covered boxes seemed practical for this, the plastic absorbs the smell and scratches over time which makes it worse AND difficult to get really clean. This box is a good size, and it's not flimsy, so even my largest cat can use it unrestricted by height as well. The lipped side has so far not let any leaks out and having the metal base makes cleaning so much easier and it doesn't absorb the smell. It is a bit more pricey than (some) of the plastic ones but I would definitely say it is worth the money - even better when it's on a reduction tim.
